Our Values

Backstage Library Works is a library services company. We’ve dedicated ourselves to the cultural heritage community since 1986. We understand that your role as a librarian or archivist is more than a job, it’s a calling. We’re here to provide tools and support to help you accomplish your vision.

Our approach is collaborative. What we consider a standard process may need to be adapted to fit the nuances of your collection. We want to first understand what you’re trying to accomplish, so we can problem-solve together and sort out the options that best meet your needs.

If you think your project is a little outside the box, please reach out. Some of our most exciting work has come from partnering with librarians seeking to do something different.

We are committed to supporting our employees with a full benefits package that includes competitive wages, insurance, and a 401(k) retirement plan. Backstage has a strong culture of promoting from within and preferring full-time employment. We believe that happy, supported, and valued employees produce the best results for our clients.

Backstage employs librarians. We offer tuition reimbursement to our staff and encourage pursuit of an MLIS. When hiring, we seek out candidates with experience in libraries and show preference to those who have earned or are working toward a degree in library science.

Our librarians are involved with the PCC, NACO, and CONSER. Our people have contributed to the development of standards and guidelines in the library community. Backstage has been an independent NACO contributor since 2015. We are a corporate member of the American Library Association and its Core division. Our people serve on ALA committees and have made presentations at ALA conferences and other professional meetings.
