Backstage Library Works to host seminar for library leaders and special collections professionals in Berkeley, California on October 4, 2018

PROVO, Utah, August 31, 2018 –– Backstage Library Works ( is pleased to announce its upcoming seminar, Hidden Collections: California, to be held in Berkeley, October 4, 2018.

Hidden Collections: California is a one-day seminar for library leaders and special collections professionals who work with archival materials, digital images, microfilm, or metadata.

Special collections are kept from public display to protect unique items and fragile materials. Donors, patrons, researchers, librarians and archivists want these hidden collections to be found, seen, and used. Discovery, access, and preservation are all important in managing archival collections.

Librarians at leading institutions are tackling the challenges of digitization, preservation, and metadata for their special collections in creative ways. Backstage has invited a few librarians to discuss their favorite projects, current initiatives, and future plans.

The day’s lineup will include speakers from the California Digital Library, the University of California, Berkeley, the Orbis Cascade Alliance, Backstage Library Works, and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
