University of Colorado Boulder to begin cataloging project with Backstage Library Works

PROVO, Utah, August 29, 2012 — The University of Colorado Boulder has engaged the cataloging services of Backstage Library Works for select non-English language materials. The new project involves full-level cataloging for items published in Arabic, Farsi, Hindi, Korean and Tibetan. Cataloging will include Library of Congress classification and subject headings, with scripts and transliteration as appropriate.

The University Libraries will send Backstage items to be cataloged. Backstage staff will search OCLC WorldCat for copy. If copy is available, the records will be edited to the library’s specifications.  If no copy cataloging exists, Backstage will create original catalog records.

The Bibliographic Services team in Backstage’s Provo, Utah, office will manage the workflow, drawing on the expertise of professional and paraprofessional staff, as well as a network of contract catalogers, to provide all of the language skills that the university’s project requires.
