What to Inspect When You're Inspecting:
A Hands-On Guide to Reviewing Samples from Your Authority Control Vendor

For all the excitement today about artificial intelligence, we still like to give our machines the "trust, but verify" treatment. Which of us hasn't cursed a faulty spell checker that failed to catch an error or created a fresh malapropism? And how many of us are ready to hop into a driverless car?

Automated metadata enrichment promises an efficiency that just can't be matched by manual means. But the wrong application of a setting can pepper your catalog with changes you don't want. When you send your records through an automated process for authority control, RDA, URIs, or other enrichment, you're taking a leap of faith.

Before running changes across an entire catalog, a vendor will often work with a library to process smaller batches of sample data to make sure that results match expectations.

In this webinar, Nate Cothran shares tools and tips, walking you through the process of checking your sample data to verify that everything is the way you want it to be.

You're welcome to use the MARC Viewer program and its T-constraint filters for your own purposes. If the demo doesn't cover what you want to inspect, or if you just need some extra help learning how to use the tool, we'd be happy to walk you through a review of your Backstage sample or advise you on reviewing files from some other source.
