Backstage completes extensive on-site digitization and transmissive digitization projects for Library of Congress

BETHLEHEM, Pa., October 19, 2016 – Backstage Library Works recently completed a pair of scanning projects for the Library of Congress. Over the course of 18 months, they digitized 808,000 archival documents and bound book images on-site at the Library, plus 236,500 transmissive images at Backstage’s preservation facility in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Backstage Library Works preserves more than 19,000 pages of theatre history for Ohio State University

BETHLEHEM, Pa., March 4, 2015 – Backstage Library Works (www.BSLW.com) announced today the successful preservation digitization of 15 large scrapbook volumes from the Leffingwell collection documenting American theatre performance from the late 19th century through 1922. Digitization included loose items, oversized, heavy and acidic materials mounted on tissue paper, two-page spreads with items pasted across book gutters, and mounted theatre playbills containing multiple leaves. The Leffingwell scrapbooks vary in size and are held by The Ohio State University’s Lawrence & Lee Theatre Research Institute library. Continue reading

University of California, Berkeley works with Backstage to digitize Japanese American Evacuation and Resettlement collection

PROVO, Utah, April 30, 2014Backstage Library Works (www.bslw.com) has completed a large-scale digitization project as part of the development of Berkeley’s Japanese American Evacuation and Resettlement Study Digital Archive.  Digitization of 100,000 original manuscript items included daily journals, field reports, life histories and extensive correspondence between staff, evacuees and other individuals.    Continue reading

Santa Monica College Library partners with Backstage to preserve and provide access to eight decades of history

BETHLEHEM, Pa., April 4, 2014 – Santa Monica College Library and Backstage Library Works have joined forces to microfilm and digitize more than 14,000 pages of the college’s student newspaper. The digital images will be hosted by the California Digital Newspaper Collection (CDNC), an online, text-searchable repository of digitized California newspapers that includes political, business and social history from 1846 to the present.
