Backstage surpasses 10 million mark in RFID tagging

PROVO, Utah, February 27, 2017 — Backstage Library Works (www.bslw.com), a provider of on-site services to libraries around the world, has placed 10,821,628 radio-frequency identification (RFID) tags. Projects ranged from application and encoding of 76,000 RFID labels for one library to tagging 1.6 million items across 35 branches for another. Recent Backstage RFID projects include tagging at California’s Pleasanton Public Library, Indiana’s Lake County Public Library, and Colorado’s Arapahoe Public Library.

Backstage crews tagged collections for libraries implementing systems from major RFID vendors, including:

  • 3M
  • Bibliotheca
  • D-Tech
  • EnvisionWare
  • Integrated Technology Group (ITG)
  • MK Solutions
  • Tech Logic

John Reese, vice president of on-site services for Backstage, explains:

“Backstage’s key to successful RFID tagging is developing and implementing communication protocols, quality control programs, and collaborative efforts to ensure we meet and exceed the needs of each library. We place qualified managers on-site for each project to fit specific requirements. We are very pleased to have surpassed the 10 million mark in tagging. Each tag laid end to end would equal 500 miles, or the distance between San Diego and San Francisco. Each of these great cities has contributed to our milestone.”
